Scriptures for Finding Direction

It’s a brand new year and we’re all trying to figure out our next move. Thinking about starting a new job? A new business opportunity? Maybe you’re just trying to figure out how to stay afloat another day. No matter what the crossroad may be, we’re all seeking direction. Who better to seek direction from than the all-knowing God that genuinely wants to see us win at life? Here’s a great list of verses on direction to add to your spiritual survival kit: Seeking God for Direction Proverbs 3:5-6// Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 16:9// The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Psalm 37:22// The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his […]

Improving My Prayer Life in 2017

prayer life

Like most of us, my life is pretty busy. From the moment I wake up until the time that I go to bed, it seems like there is always something that needs to be done. I have always made it a priority to begin my day with prayer and seeking God through reading the word. I also make a habit of worshiping and talking to Him throughout the day but lately, it just doesn’t feel like it’s enough. There are days that I feel like maybe I haven’t covered enough ground and prayed over enough people or situations. There are also days that I look up and I’m like, God, I haven’t talked with you much today. I know in my spirit that this feeling is Holy Spirit asking for more from me and more is exactly what I’m going to give. About a week ago, I came across a timely video […]

3 Easy Ways To Spread Love This Christmas Season

So, we are less than a week away from Christmas and like most of us, I’ve been busy with trying to get everything done. I’ve been concerned with Christmas dinner, with making sure that every gift is wrapped and marked, and if I can be honest—I’m tired. As an adult, the holiday season can be exhausting, stressful even, and it wasn’t until a few days ago that I realized that I had gotten caught up in the very thing that I criticize every year. Christmas has become so commercialized that we (myself included) have forgotten what Christmas is all about: love. Jesus’ birth was literally the embodiment of God’s love for us. I think it’s time that we all get back to the heart of the matter and make Christmas about love—genuine love that brings joy to the heart of Christ. I know everyone has their hands full so here […]

The Virtuous Woman Pt. 5 | She Takes Care Of Home

Virtuous Woman Trustworthy

Proverbs 31: 21-22 & 27 “When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed;     she is clothed in fine linen and purple.”  “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” Let’s be real for a moment—adulting is hard. No one really likes bills, errands, or folding laundry but they are all necessary annoyances that need to be taken care of to ensure that the wheel of life keeps moving. Can you imagine what life would be like if you had no clean laundry, no clean dishes, and you were facing a repossession of your car because you failed to make your payments? It would be difficult, to say the least. The Proverbs 31 woman knew this and she took pride in taking care of the affairs of her home. Take […]

The Virtuous Woman Pt. 4 | She’s Gracious

Virtuous Woman Trustworthy

Proverbs 31: 20 & 26 // “She opens her arm to the poor and extends her hand to the needy” “She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction on her tongue” What does it mean to be gracious? Simply put, to be gracious is to be marked by kindness and courtesy (Miriam-Webster). If the Proverbs 31 woman was nothing else, she was kind. Everything that she did was an extension of her grace. She was gracious in caring for her family, she was gracious in her businesses but more than anything, she was gracious in her dealings with the people around her.  Take a look at verse 20, “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hand to the needy”. Like most of us, the Proverbs 31 woman had a full plate but she never allowed her busy schedule to get in the way of giving back to her community […]

The Virtuous Woman Pt. 3 | She’s Financially Savvy

Virtuous Woman Trustworthy

Proverbs 31:16, 18, & 24// “She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.” “She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.” “She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.” Contrary to popular belief, God never intended for us to be poor. He understands the value in building wealth and He has given us all the tools and basic know-how to do so, but it is up to us to employ that knowledge and further cultivate it. When it comes to being financially savvy, the Proverbs 31 woman was a powerhouse. Her family was pretty well off and although they may not have needed any extra money, she took it upon herself to bring in a few coins of her own. Take a look at verse 24, “She makes linen garments […]

The Virtuous Woman Pt. 2 | She’s Hardworking

Virtuous Woman Trustworthy

Proverbs 31:13-15 & 17 // “ She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.” “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” One of my favorite qualities in the Proverbs 31 woman is that she’s a dedicated hard worker. Verse 13 says, “She selects wool and flax with eager hands.” I’m sure that most of us aren’t harvesting sheep’s wool or picking food from fields but no matter what our career choice may be, we should be eager to do the work that God has placed in front of us. A few years ago, I learned the concept of ‘work as worship’ and it forever changed the way that I look at anything […]
