Choose Forgiveness

The road to forgiveness is probably one of the most confusing and uncomfortable things we’ll face in life. Number one, because there’s no real marker to let us know when we’ve actually made it. And number two —because it’s just really hard to do. Sometimes people do things to us that seem unforgivable and it’s a whole lot easier to just wallow around in our anger than to allow them the satisfaction of a clear heart. The thing is, forgiveness, like tithing and prayer, was created by God for our benefit. It’s a matter of the heart. Forgiving is a lot like a routine dentist visit. It’s crazy uncomfortable while we’re going through it, but in the grand scheme of things it’s the only thing that can help us maintain good health and prevent serious nasties from festering in our mouths. When we fail to take advantage of our opportunity […]

How To Switch Up Your Makeup For The Fall Season

Fall Makeup

Fall is without a doubt my favorite season. Cooler weather, spiced lattes, and beautiful scenery (not to mention, my October birthday). But more importantly, with fall comes my favorite fashion trends and makeup looks. Here’s three small ways to change up your makeup for this upcoming fall season: Reach for warmer colors This is definitely the time to put away the hot pinks and fuchsia and pull out the deeper, much richer, earthy tones. Your eye shadows should range from soft browns to sultry coppers and metallic shades. Lip colors can be bold burgundys, plums, deep reds, or even beautiful nudes. Make it Smokey I like to wear a subtle natural smokey eye year round but fall is the time to really go all out. Go heavy on the eyeliner, rock a cat eye, and go for bold lashes. Feel free to add black and pops of color into your […]

Catching up with the Colvins: Healthier Eating

Catching Up With the Colvins

As a family, Nathan and I have always tried to eat pretty healthy but recently we’ve decided to kick it up a notch.  We were sitting in church one Sunday and our guest speaker was speaking about Daniel and how his lifestyle is an awesome example of Christian living . The thing that resonated with me the most was his diet. See, Daniel, like most Jews of that time, was a good steward over his body and he was extremely particular about what he ate.  The speaker went on to say something that turned on a light bulb for me:  Our bodies are temples designed to be used by God and it is our job to take good care of it [1 Corinthians 6:19-20]. Now, I definitely don’t have the worst eating habits but I certainly don’t have the best. Like most people, I like McDonald’s (and that 20 piece […]

Beauty Find of the Month// Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes

Let me first start by saying that I’m a MAC girl. I love love love MAC’s makeup but let’s be real —it’s expensive. As a new stay-at-home mom, I’m always on the lookout for dupes and alternatives. It seems that every time I turn on the TV, I see a commercial about Maybelline’s Color Sensational Creamy Mattes. So a couple weeks ago I figured I would pick one up and give it a try. I’m a sucker for a lipstick with a matte finish but more importantly I like for it to be creamy so that I can avoid priming my lips. Here are my thoughts on this product:  Price I picked this lipstick up from Target for just under $6. Huge price difference compared to the $16 I usually pay for a tube of MAC lipstick.  Color The color that I picked up is number 665, “Lust for Blush”. […]

An Unfathomable Love

God's love

When I started thinking about what I would say in my first blog post I heard God say clearly, “Remind my people of my love”. My first thought was, “Well God, I kind of had something else in mind and…” Before I could even finish the thought I felt him tug on my heart. I obeyed. Not just because I respect the God that I serve, but because I know that he loves someone so much that he will lead them to this post at the exact time that they need it. That’s the kind of God he is and that’s the kind of love that he has for his children. Because we sometimes place conditions on our love like ‘until’, ‘unless’, or ‘if’, we have a hard time really grasping the idea of a true unconditional love. But God’s love is just that: unconditional. There’s nothing that we can do to make him reconsider because he genuinely […]

My Beautiful Blended Family

Over the last week or so, I’ve seen a lot of people share their feelings about the relationship between singer, Ciara, her NFL boyfriend Russell Wilson, and her young son, Future, that she has with rapper, Future. Apparently, a lot of people seem to disagree with her decision as a mother to introduce her son to her boyfriend, so I figured I’d share my story. When I was 20 years old, I became pregnant. I was off to college and I was nowhere near ready to start a family. It was honestly one of the scariest moments in my life. I remember literally seeing my whole life flash before my eyes when the doctor told me that my test was positive. What would my parents think? What would I do about school? How am I going to take care of someone else? But I did the responsible thing and made […]
