Avocado Oil | My New Favorite Fix For Dry Winter Skin

I’m a native Floridian but since moving to Maryland about 3 years ago, the cold winters have really taken a toll on my skin.

I’ve honestly always been a dry skin sufferer but there’s something about living in an area that gets temperatures in the teens that made things a little worse. I’ve tried every big name lotion and cream that’s marketed for dry skin but at the end of the day, I would still have a hard time taking care of my trouble areas. I was so excited when Maple Holistics reached out to me to try out one of their natural and organic beauty products because with winter right around the corner, I knew that I needed to find a new solution for my skin. I have always heard wonderful things about avocado oil when it comes to skincare so when I saw that they had a 4 oz bottle listed on their site, I knew that I had to give it a try.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the bottle and poured a drop or two into my hand is that it was so lightweightAs a long-time user of coconut oil and olive oil, I must say, avocado oil is significantly lighter. It’s also fragrance-free which is wonderful. But what really won me over is the fact that it absorbs so quickly and that it’s non-greasy—because really, who wants to be greasy? All of these qualities make it the perfect moisturizer. Sure, there are other synthetic and non-natural body oils that share these same qualities but the benefits and uses of avocado oil are far too many to pass up. Avocado oil can be used on the skin:

  • as a lotion for chapped skin
  • as a facial oil moisturizer
  • in a homemade facemask
  • in an anti-aging skin cream (Healthline.com)

I personally chose to use it underneath my normal, daily lotion as a moisture reinforcement. As soon as I get out of the shower, I rub the oil all over and then I put on a very light layer of my lotion on top. This method has given me all day moisture, especially in my trouble areas like the backs of my heels. The best part? No grease! I’ve tried this method with coconut oil and even though my skin was super hydrated, I looked like I had just fallen into a bucket of canola oil. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve finally found my new favorite fix for my dry winter skin. If you’re a dry skin sufferer like I am and you’re looking for a good solution for winter, try avocado oil. Seriously—I promise you won’t regret it.
