I’ve recently had the pleasure of reviewing the She Reads Truth Bible. I’ve been a long time fan of the She Reads Truth devotionals and mobile app so I immediately jumped at the opportunity to take their Bible for a spin and share my thoughts with you guys. Although this Bible was sent to me for review for B&H Publishing by FrontGate Media, all thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are absolutely mine. When I opened the package, my initial thoughts were, man, this Bible is gorgeous! If you know anything about She Reads Truth then you know that they incorporate beautiful artwork and calligraphy with each of their messages and they carried on this same concept with their Bibles. As you flip through the pages, preceding every new book, you’ll see beautifully written key verses with vivid colors. Speaking of colors—I received this Bible in the color “poppy” and it is so feminine and eye-catching. The cover is laced with gold ink and I’m just going to go out on a limb and say that this is probably the most beautiful Bible I’ve ever seen.
As beautiful as this Bible may be, She Reads Truth made sure that this Bible was designed for ultimate utility. In other words, she’s more than just a pretty face. If you’re an avid reader of the word or well on your way to becoming one, then you will be completely satisfied with the features that come with this Bible. Features include:
- almost 200 devotionals
- 66 artist-designed key verses
- 35 full-color timelines
- 20 full-color maps
- 11 full-color charts
- reading plans for every book of the Bible
- one-year Bible reading plan
- detailed book introductions
- key verse list
- carefully curated topical index
- smyth-sewn binding
- two colored ribbon markers
- wide margins for journaling and note-taking
For me, study Bibles with lots of commentary and background information are must-haves. She Reads Truth did a wonderful job of including introductions and background information to help readers gain a better understanding of the context in which a book or chapter was written. As a matter of fact, within the first few pages, there is a great guide to help readers understand how to read the Bible and it includes an explanation of the key themes of the gospel. Although I’m partial to the New International Version (NIV), this Bible is translated into the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) version and it is incredibly easy to read. If you’re a long time reader of this blog then you know that I also advocate for life application Bibles. The She Reads Truth Bibles do not necessarily include life application tips for each verse, however, the devotionals are meticulously placed within the chapters and they are so relevant and relatable. I will say though that I believe a life application version would be an incredible addition to this already amazing Bible.
I love all of the features but I must say that my favorite feature is the list of key verses. As a busy stay-at-home-mom, wife, and blogger, there are days where I’m not able to indulge in deep Bible study in the morning. On those busy days, I’ve learned from my unofficial mentor, Priscilla Shirer, to find a verse to meditate on throughout my day. The key verse list makes this so easy. It’s packed full of powerful verses from each book in the Bible and it really helps with scripture memorization.
Another thing that I love about this Bible is that it incorporates two of the most important elements of Bible study that can sometimes be the difference between a lifetime habit and an occasional occurrence: prayer and consistency. Before every book, not only do you receive background information but you also receive reasons why we should give thanks for that particular book. This reinforces their teaching in the beginning of the Bible that we should “read prayerfully”. Also included in the beginning of each book is an individual reading plan for each book, broken down by weeks to encourage deeper Bible study. If you turn to the back, you’ll also find a one-year Bible reading plan. For most of us, if we fail to plan, we plan to fail so reading plans are so important. I love that you don’t have to access outside resources (of course, unless you want to) to keep up with your reading. The plans even include little boxes so that you can mark off as you read.
All in all, this Bible is incredible. It’s the perfect resource for all women whether you’ve been reading the Bible for 10 years or 10 days. Its beautiful artwork keeps you captivated and it’s dedication to the delivering the perfect, true, unadulterated Word of God will you keep you spiritually fed. She Reads Truth’s mission is to have “Women in the Word of God every day” and I think it’s safe to say that with all of these features, this Bible is sure to have women diving into the Word every chance that they get.
