We’ve all been there. We go to pray but we just don’t have the words. Maybe your situation is so complex that you just don’t know where to begin or maybe you’re feeling like you just have no idea what to pray about today. We can rest assured that even in the moments where we’re feeling kinda ‘meh’ or deeply saddened to the point where we have no words, the Holy Spirit is interceding on our behalf with a groaning that is too deep for words. Yet even so, it’s important that we in some way petition our requests to God even when we’re not sure how to put them into words. What better place to turn to than God-breathed scripture? Here are a few prayers straight from the Bible that are sure to help jump start your prayers today:
The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)
This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
The Prayer of Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:10)
Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!
Let your hand be with me,
and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.
Jesus’ Prayer in Gethsemane (Matthew 14:36)
Yet not what I will, but what you will.
I love each of these prayers for several different reasons. When we pray, we relinquish control and we acknowledge that God is the good and faithful author of our lives. All three of these prayers acknowledge that no matter what is going on around us, God has the power to bless our situation and that his will trumps our will any day of the week because he has promised an expected end. Pray these three prayers and I guarantee that your faith in the Father will increase and your focus will go from “my situation” to “my God”. God bless.
