A few days ago, I overheard a coworker talking about a coconut oil coffee scrub and I thought hmmm..coconut oil and coffee?! Coconut oil and coffee are two things in my life that I never want to have to go a day without. So mixed together, I figured they’d be pretty amazing. As soon as I got home, I set off on a DIY coffee scrub adventure. After doing some quick research, I found out that coffee scrubs are super simple to make yourself and they have quite a few benefits:
- Like any scrub, they remove dead, flaky skin
- The caffeine in the coffee has vitalizing qualities
- The coffee provides aromatherapy
- They temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite (HuffPost)
All you need to make the perfect coffee scrub is virgin coconut oil, sugar (I use Sugar in the Raw because it’s not as fine as refined sugar), and caffeinated coffee. It’s so easy to make that I honestly didn’t measure ingredients. But if I had to guess, I used almost two tablespoons of coffee, two tablespoons of coconut oil, and a tablespoon of sugar.
Once mixed together, it should look a little something like this:
I stored my scrub in a really small tupperware bowl to maintain freshness (at least until I make it to Michael’s to pick up a cute storage container). If you crave the smell of a fresh pot of coffee first thing in the morning, then this scrub is for definitely for you! I used the scrub right before I showered and the smell of the coffee combined with the steam of the shower was heavenly. It was literally just like that brief moment before you have your coffee where you just close your eyes and take in all the smells and warmth coming from your mug.I definitely recommend putting a towel down first because it gets pretty messy. If you’re anything like me and you struggle with making your coffee in the morning before you’ve had your coffee, then you know what I mean; coffee grounds were everywhere! But the results were well worth the mess. The coffee combined with the sugar made my skin super smooth and the coconut oil left my skin super moisturized. I paired the scrub with my moisturizing shower gel and it was AMAZING. I plan to do this scrub once a week to fight against dry, flaky winter skin.
So what do you think? Will you be trying this DIY coffee scrub too?
