8 Ways To Stay Fabulous On A Budget

I’ve been a SAHM (stay at home mom) for a year and a half now and I’ve had to come up with some creative ways to maintain my style without breaking the bank. As a single income family trying to get rid of debt, weekend shopping trips have become a thing of the past and my financial priorities have shifted. However, I was not willing to forsake my flyness in the name of frugality (I’m just being honest haha). Whether you’re saving up for a vacay or just trying to find new ways to be more budget consciousness, this post may be helpful to you. Here are 10 ways that I stay fabulous on a budget.

1. Shop at discount stores
I don’t shop very often but when I do shop, I’m usually at a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross. Five or six years ago, you couldn’t pay me to stay in those stores because I was so spoiled by the convenience and organization of department stores and malls. Now that I have a family and I’m on a much tighter budget, I love discount stores. I’ve been able to find some great pieces for much of nothing.

2. Revamp what you already own
I am definitely one of those people that will stand in front of a closet full of clothes and claim that I have nothing to wear. Whether we like to admit or not, there’s always something in there. I love finding things that I wore like three years ago and putting a new spin on it. An old dress with a new blazer, an old cardigan with my favorite pair of high-waisted jeans—oldies can definitely be goodies.

3. Go thrifting
I don’t do this as often as I’d like to, but you can find some real gems in a good thrift store. Yard sales are great as well. Find out the best times to shop at your local thrift store and go early! The good stuff always goes fast. What’s that saying? One person’s trash is another person’s treasure—definitely.

4. Always look for drugstore makeup dupes and alternatives
MAC is hands down my favorite makeup retailer but they are not budget friendly. With the exception of my foundation (because Studio Fix Fluid is bomb) I’m always willing to find a cheaper alternative. I’m sure I can live without a $20 brow pencil and mascara for a while.

5. Find a few staple DIY hairstyles
One the keys to fabulosity is fabulous hair. Since going to the hair salon every couple weeks isn’t in my budget right now, I’ve learned some of the basics of hair care to maintain healthy hair. I also have a few go-to styles that I can do myself to avoid the expensive cycle of jumping from hairstyle to hairstyle.

6. Adopt a simple and inexpensive skin care regimen
Skin care is non-negotiable but there are plenty of ways to take care of your skin without breaking the bank.

7. Find inexpensive staple accessories
One of my favorite things to do is go to places like Forever 21 and H&M and rack up on costume jewelry, a nice handbag or two, and hair accessories. I always try to buy pieces that can go with several different outfits and can be dressed up or down.

8. Keep nail polish around
I’m such a Plain Jane when it comes to my nails so I always keep nude and neutral colored nail polish on hand. You never know when you may need it and it always adds something special to your look. Instead of spending $50 for a mani-pedi at a salon, sometimes I like to do my own.

These are a few of the many ways I try to stay fabulous without breaking the bank. What are some of the ways that you maintain your style while staying within your budget?
