In less than 24 hours, ‘New Year, New Me’ season will be upon us. Well, did you know that statistically only about 8% of Americans actually make use of their New Year resolutions (Statisticbrain.com)? Crazy right?! So I wanted to take a moment to talk to you guys about how I go about setting my goals for the new year and provide some tips on what I believe is necessary to achieve them.
Write your goals down!
I know that personally I’m a visual person and seeing everything laid out in front of me, helps me to fully grasp the big picture. We constantly have so many thoughts and ideas trapped in our heads and there’s something about writing them down that breathes life into them (Trust me, I created an eleven page business plan for the blog a month before I posted anything lol). And I don’t believe that this by coincidence—it’s how God has wired us. Several times in the bible God instructed for his people to write things down and it changed circumstances drastically. Couldn’t it do the same for you?
Create a plan of action!
Every idea must come complete with a plan or it becomes just like a car with no fuel—stationary. Creating a plan helps you to look at all the different steps necessary to achieve your goal and to determine if it’s actually feasible at this point in time.
Set Deadline Dates!
Setting deadline dates for each step in your plan of action (the tangible ones that need it), really transforms a simple idea into something deliberate and intentional. It also holds you accountable for what you said you would do. I mean, have you ever watched an important date (one that you refused to give attention to) pass on your calendar? It doesn’t feel that great. So give yourself a cut off date and mark your calendars.
Tell a Friend!
This is an awesome idea! Sometimes it takes a little more than self-motivation. Sometimes we need a friend to help keep us honest. If you want to lose 15 pounds, tell someone you can trust, that you won’t mind checking you if you drag your feet a little.
I hope this helps! I’m praying for each and every one of you this New Year to have a year of growth, blessings, and divine revelation from Holy Spirit. I love you all! God bless and I’ll talk to you guys next year.
