25 Questions and Answers

Tomorrow I will be 25 years old and to celebrate my birthday with my lovely readers, I’m going to answer 25 questions submitted by you guys! Ready? Let’s do it.

1.    How do you handle Criticisms on how you choose to live your life?
I honestly ignore it. I understand that at the end of the day, God is the one that I answer to and as long as things are right between he and I, I’m good.

2.    What is the best lipstick color for brown skin girls to wear?
I think we can never go wrong with nudes, mauves, and reds. Those are the three colors that I’ve seen look great on all women of color. The shades of color may vary to suit your complexion but all three are winners to me.

3.    Where was your first date?
Uh, I don’t remember! LOL I’m sorry. My first date with my husband, however, was at Bahama Breeze and this man was 30 minutes late! Boy am I glad that I decided to stay.

4.    What is your favorite piece of accessory?
Probably earrings. I have lots of costume jewelry and I love how choosing a stud over a hoop can change the entire dynamic of your outfit.

5.    Who is your Best friend aside from your husband?
I met a girl named Sharrell in middle school—sweetest girl ever, and we’ve been best friends for over 10 years.

6.    How many siblings do you have?
I have two brothers. One is older and the other is younger.

7.    What’s your favorite snack?
Fruit, especially bananas!

8.    What is your favorite genre of music?
I love Neo-soul but nothing moves me like my worship music.

9.    What’s your biggest challenge being a Christian?
I would say my biggest challenge is making sure that I trust God in all things—no matter how small. I’ve seen him work in my life so much that when the big things come, I know that he’s got it covered. Sometimes I find myself trying to deal with the small things on my own and I know that’s not what he wants from me.

10.    How do you get a man to marry you? I’m tired of being single!
The best advice that I can give you is to just continue to be you and never compromise your values. Men really respect a woman that stays true to who she is and as long as you do, what’s meant to be will be. Continue to allow Christ to be your focus and before you know it, God will bless you with a Christ-centered marriage.

11.    Mac vs drugstore brands
Good question! This is a question that I’m gradually trying to answer myself (and I’ll continue to post every time I try something new). So far what I’ve found is that things like lipsticks, mascara, liner, and eye shadow are great drugstore finds. There are so many dupes out there. I haven’t tried to change my MAC foundation yet but I’m sure I’ll try it sometime soon.

12.    What advice would you give to your 10 year old self now that you’re turning 25?
I would remind myself that I’m beautiful and that the opinions of others can neither devalue nor validate me. I would advise my 10 year old self to continue to be exactly the person that God has created me to be regardless of what anyone thinks—because she’s awesome.

13.    Why did you decide to go natural?
There were a few reasons: (1) I had several bad relaxers that damaged my hair (2) I had so much new growth that I would’ve needed to get a virgin relaxer (and we know those things are expensive) (3) I was going through a rough patch and transitioning refocused my attention to something new and positive.

14.    How many children do you have?
I have two amazing little ones! I have a 3-year-old daughter and my son is 5 months old.

15.    What advice would you give to other young mothers?
That for every party, mall trip, or gathering that you miss, God has instead blessed you with precious memories with your child(ren). It’s not easy but he trusted with you the job and he’s already equipped you with everything that you need to be a great mother.

16.    Do you have any hobbies?
I love to cook, read, and write. I’m planning to get back into couponing as well.

17.    I read in your bio that you’re a Navy wife, how do you like it?
So far, so good! I’ve only been a Navy wife for almost 2 years so I haven’t experienced much but from what I have, I’m enjoying it.

18.    How do you plan on using your degree?
Well, I have a BA in political science so there’s a wide range of things that I can do in government. Since my husband will be in the Navy for quite some time, having a normal career just isn’t feasible right now. What I will more than likely do is find jobs with the Department of Defense on the bases where my husband will be stationed.

19.    Would you ever get a relaxer again?
You know, I’m actually not opposed to it! My relaxed hair was really healthy for a long time. I’m not one of those anti-relaxer Naturals haha. Natural hair is just the best option for me right now and I love it.

20.    Do you believe that people are born gay?
I personally do not. I just can’t imagine that we would be created to multiply for God’s glory and as soon as we enter the world, we would be wired to desire something different. Only God knows though.

21.    Favorite color?

22.    How often do you pray?
All the time. I give God the first fruits of my day by praying as soon as I wake up and then I worship and I talk with him throughout my day.

23.    What’s been the biggest challenge of marriage you’ve experienced so far?
Budgeting! Women and men tend to have different financial priorities. Thank God my husband and I are now on the same page with our financial goals.

24.    Do you have any pets?
Nope, no pets. We’re hoping to get a dog one day soon.

25.    How do you go about winning over your friends for Christ?
I just try my hardest to live an exemplary lifestyle and I pray for God to touch their hearts. I also do other things like invite people to church and if I feel led I’ll relay to them what I’ve learned though Christ. I’ve learned that when people can see the change and benefits of living a righteous life, they are a lot easier influenced than if I were to try to convince them. I’m happy to say though, that all of my friends are now followers of Christ.

Thank you so much for your participation in this post! You all have truly helped to make my birthday a happy one. Love you!
